Purrloom Curl Basket in Grey: handwoven cotton rope cat basket with cat-ear handles and rope-ball toy

Handwoven cotton rope

Purrloom Curl Basket

The bed she scratches when she wakes up. Nobody has to hold her down.

  • Claw care she does herself - scratching pulls off the old outer layer of her claws. She may still need a trim now and then.
  • Rope under her paws when she wakes up - cats often scratch right after a nap.
  • Put it where she naps - or right by the couch arm she scratches now.
  • Walls to curl up in - for the cat who picks a shoe box over a $45 bed.
  • Not an eyesore - handwoven in grey, green or brown. It looks like a basket.

  • Soft cotton rope

Tight, stitched coils she can knead, grip and nap on.

  • Made for scratching

Her claws grip the coils the moment she wakes up and stretches.

  • Walls to curl up in

A raised rim with cat-ear peaks to lean on while she naps.

  • Handwoven

Coiled and stitched rope, so no two baskets are exactly alike.

  • Rope toy built in

A rope ball on a rope tail, ready for batting and bunny kicks.

Why she picks the couch

  • Your couch

She didn't pick it to be mean. It's tall, sturdy, right by her nap spot, and it holds her scent. That's a lot of what a cat wants in a scratcher.

  • After naps

is when cats often scratch. She naps on the couch, so the couch is what she scratches.

  • Right there

is where a scratcher works best: next to where she sleeps. Purrloom is the bed, so it's already there.

She doesn't nap on the post.

THE SPOT MATTERS

She doesn't nap on the post.

Most homes have a bed in one corner and a scratching post in another. But she naps on the couch. So when she wakes up and stretches, the couch is what's under her paws. Purrloom is her bed and her scratcher in 1 spot, right where she naps.

  • Rope where she wakes up

She stretches and scratches after a nap. The rope is right there.

  • Her own claw care

Scratching pulls off the old outer layer of her claws. Nobody holds her.

  • Walls to curl up in

A low, round bowl she can lean on.

  • A rope ball to bat

On a rope tail, for batting and bunny kicks.

  • A basket you'll leave out

Grey, green or brown. Not an eyesore in your living room.

You're not a bad owner. She's not a bad cat.

You're not a bad owner. She's not a bad cat.

Why the post, the spray and the towel didn't work.

You bought the post. You put it right next to the couch. She used it for 5 seconds and went back to the couch. You tried the spray, the tape and the covers. On trim day you tried the towel and the treats. Maybe the vet. It was still a huge fight.

None of that means you failed. Scratching isn't bad behavior. It's how she cares for her claws and leaves her scent. She does a lot of it right after she wakes up. So a post across the room loses to the couch she naps on.

  • The post: right job, wrong spot. She doesn't nap on it.
  • Sprays, tape and covers: she just moves an inch along and scratches there.
  • The towel on trim day: nobody should have to be the scary monster.
Where a scratcher actually gets used

Where a scratcher actually gets used

Put a scratcher close to where your cat likes to rest. Cats stretch and scratch right after a nap, which is why the couch arm next to her nap spot takes the damage. A scratcher by her favorite bed catches that stretch first.

That's the whole idea behind Purrloom: the bed and the scratcher in one spot, next to the couch.

What it does for her claws, and what it won't.

What it does for her claws, and what it won't.

Your cat takes care of her own claws. She does it by scratching. Each claw grows in layers. When she scratches, the old outer layer comes off. You may even find these old layers on the floor. That's normal.

She scratches a lot right after a nap, when she wakes up and stretches. So she scratches whatever is next to where she slept. If she naps on the couch, that's the couch.

This basket is her bed. When she wakes up in it, the rope is right under her paws. Nobody has to hold her down.

What it won't do

It won't make her claws short. Claws keep growing, so she may still need a trim now and then. And not every cat takes to it. That's what the 50 days are for.

  • Her rope, right where she wakes up
  • Her claw care, with nobody holding her
  • Her own spot, right where she naps

Sources: American Association of Feline Practitioners (scratching removes the old outer layer of the claw, and cats often scratch when they wake up). PDSA (indoor cats can get longer claws).

How to get your cat to use it

5 simple steps to help her claim it as her spot.

  • 1

Put it where the damage is

Next to the couch arm she scratches, or where she already naps.

  • 2

    Make it smell like home

Put a worn T-shirt or her blanket inside for the first few days.

  • 3

    Show her the rope

Run your fingers along the inside wall and swing the rope ball.

  • 4

    Add something she loves

A pinch of catnip or silvervine, or a treat left inside.

  • 5

    Let her choose

Don't place her in it. Cats like to pick their own spot.

Questions cat owners ask

Read all FAQs »
Which size should I get?

Medium (15.7" / 40 cm across) suits cats up to 7.7 lb. Large (18.1" / 46 cm across) suits cats up to 16.5 lb and cats who like to sprawl. For the best fit, measure your cat curled up asleep and pick a basket at least 2" wider. Over 16.5 lb? Large is our biggest size, but it may be snug.

Will it file her nails so I can stop trimming?

No. Scratching pulls off the old outer layer of her claws. That's her own everyday claw care. But claws keep growing, so she may still need a trim now and then.

What is it made of?

Handwoven cotton rope, coiled and stitched into a bowl, with cat-ear peaks on the rim and a rope-ball toy on a rope tail.

Will she scratch it, or just sleep in it?

It's made for both. She naps in it, and when she wakes up and stretches, the rope is right under her paws. Some cats nap in it first and start scratching a little later. Placing it right next to the spot she scratches now helps her make the switch.

My cat ignores every bed I buy. Will she use this one?

Maybe not, and we won't pretend. Some cats climb in on day 1. Some take a few weeks. Some never do. They're cats. They're ready when they're ready. Where you put it matters most, so try the 5 steps above. If she still won't use it, get a refund within 50 days and keep the basket.

Why does the shape matter?

The raised walls give her something to lean against and a sense of enclosure, the way cats curl into a box or the corner of a couch. She gets a wall to lean on while she naps, and rope to scratch when she wakes up.

How do I clean it?

Shake out fur or use a lint roller. For spots, use a damp cloth with mild soap and cool water, then let it air dry fully before your cat uses it again.

Is the rope toy safe?

It's a rope ball on a rope tail, made for batting and play. Like any toy, check it now and then for loose threads, and remove it if your cat likes to chew rope.

How long does shipping take?

Shipping is free on every order. Orders ship in 1–3 business days. US orders usually arrive 9–15 days after that. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico: up to 4 weeks. You get a tracking link by email as soon as it ships. Orders ship from our partner warehouse in China.

What is the 50-day guarantee?

If the basket doesn't work out for your cat, you can get a refund within 50 days of delivery. You keep the basket. It covers a cat who still won't use it after a fair try, and quality problems like loose stitching or damage. To claim, message us. Send your order number and 2 photos of the basket where your cat hangs out. Tell us which of the 5 steps you tried.

Does it arrive in shape?

It may look a little squished. We pack it tight so it travels safely. Push the sides out with your hands and give it a day to settle. If it still won't hold its shape, send us a photo and we'll sort it out.

Why does it cost more than the ones on Amazon?

You can find rope baskets for $20 to $30. Here you get 50 days to try it. If it doesn't work out, you get a refund and keep the basket, with nothing to box up and ship. A real person answers within 1 business day. And there's no fake "was" price.

I have 2 cats. Will they share?

Some cats share. Many want their own spot. If you have more than 1 cat, each cat should have her own. With 2 baskets, the 2nd one is 50% off.

Does it smell?

New things can smell strange to a cat. Let it air out for a day. Then put a worn T-shirt inside, so it smells like you.

I ordered the largest size, but it's small!

At first, the cat didn't take to it like it did with other beds. But after a while, it still liked it. It even sometimes sharpens its claws on it.

Fast delivery, the courier brought the package directly to my home. Excellent basket, the cat packed itself into it before I even had time to unfold it after unpacking. And immediately started sharpening its claws on it. A multifunctional item, I recommend it. I took size L for a 6 kg cat.
